Rhinoplasty Surgery: An Overview

rhinoplastyIn our previous blog post, we reviewed the two primary reasons our patients seek rhinoplasty surgery. In this follow-up post, we will walk you through the procedure and recovery process.

Since choosing to undergo rhinoplasty surgery is a personal decision regarding such a delicate part of the face, our experienced facial plastic surgeons spend time to get to know each patient and their unique concerns during the consultation process. This initial time spent before you even enter the operating room helps to ensure that you and Dr. J. David Kriet or Dr. Clinton D. Humphrey have the same expectations going into surgery.

During this outpatient surgery, our doctors will typically conceal all incisions on the inside of the nose or on the columella (the skin separating the nostrils). Once the incisions have been made, cartilage and bone will be sculpted into the proper position for ideal functional and aesthetic outcomes. After the procedure, a protective nose split is typically worn for about one week.

You will likely experience some minor bruising or swelling that will resolve over the course of one or two weeks following your rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty procedure. Typically, patients feel comfortable returning to work and their normal daily activities five to seven days after surgery. Our doctors recommend that you refrain from wearing eyeglasses or sunglasses on the bridge of your nose for four to six weeks during the healing process to maximize the aesthetic outcome, and they will demonstrate how to safely adjust the positioning of eyeglasses during this time of healing. Once healing is complete, in addition to enjoying their new look, many of our rhinoplasty patients also experience a boost in self-confidence as a result of their procedure.
