Dermabrasion
If the skin’s texture has been radically altered by acne, aging, or an accident, the problem cannot be remedied with superficial methods of skin care. Dermabrasion, available at our Kansas City practice, improves the skin’s texture by smoothing old scars or wrinkles.
Dr. Kriet performs dermabrasion with an instrument that rotates and removes the top layers of skin that are affected by scarring or wrinkles. Depending on the amount of skin that needs to be treated, dermabrasion may take 15 minutes to more than an hour.
Microdermabrasion
Since microdermabrasion came to the United States from Europe in 1997, it has become quite popular as an effective method of rejuvenating the skin on the face. After undergoing microdermabrasion at our Kansas City medical spa, patients are delighted to find that their faces appear fresher, healthier, and more supple.
Age spots, stretch marks, and fine wrinkles can all be improved with the application of microdermabrasion. Kansas City doctor J. David Kriet uses an instrument that directs a fine spray of tiny crystals at the skin’s surface, gently brushing away the top layer of damaged skin cells. Not only does this process help to soften and renew the skin, but there is also evidence that microdermabrasion may stimulate the growth of collagen, which aids in long-term skin elasticity.
Since microdermabrasion is a gentle, gradual treatment, most of our Kansas City patients will need to undergo a series of six to eight treatments over a period of two months to see the best results. Each treatment takes about 30 minutes and requires no anesthesia or downtime, making microdermabrasion a fast and easy way to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin.
Directly following microdermabrasion treatment, the skin typically has a slightly rosy complexion that fades after a day. The skin may feel dry and must be properly cleansed and moisturized for several days.
Obagi® Skin Care Products
Store-bought skin care products are useful for cleansing the skin, and not much else. They do not promote skin renewal or help to slow or reverse the aging process. Obagi® skin care products, available at our Kansas City practice, can achieve all this, as well as firming and hydrating the skin.

Obagi® Blue Peel
When used in conjunction with other Obagi® skin care products, the Obagi® Blue Peel can be an effective way to reduce or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and age spots.
The Obagi® Blue Peel procedure itself requires only about an hour at Dr. Kriet’s office. Once the Blue Peel is applied to the face and neck, patients will experience a mild burning sensation for a few minutes. Following the procedure, patients will see a blue tint to their skin, which disappears after about 24 hours.
Old skin cells will begin to peel off within two or three days; after about 10 days, the healing process will be complete and patients will be rewarded with a fresh, healthy look.
During your consultation with Dr. Kriet, he will determine which products from the extensive line of Obagi® skin care products are right for you. If you are planning to undergo an Obagi® Blue Peel, he will recommend that you spend several weeks beforehand repairing and preparing your skin with Obagi® skin care products.
Superficial and Medium Depth Chemical Peels
Unlike microdermabrasion and dermabrasion techniques, chemical peels remove the topmost layer of skin through the application of various solutions. Because chemical peels have been successfully used for decades, they are a form of skin care that our Kansas City patients have come to rely on.
One of the most common ingredients in chemical peels is TCA, or trichloroacetic acid. TCA peels successfully treat fine wrinkles and pigment problems such as age spots. Even though “deeper” chemical peels exist, TCA peels can be used on a wider range of patients and require a shorter recovery period.
