Nonsurgical Aesthetic Services

While many people benefit from facial plastic surgery to achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance, some may prefer less invasive procedures that yield more subtle yet effective results. Nonsurgical plastic surgery alternatives can not only fill in lines and wrinkles but also rejuvenate your complexion and address a variety of skin conditions to give you a smoother, healthier look.

At The University of Kansas Health System, we offer a range of minimally invasive aesthetic enhancement procedures that can revitalize your appearance. Our appointments are quick, discrete and require little to no downtime.

Nonsurgical aesthetic services overview

For some individuals, plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift are not necessary to achieve their appearance goals. In these cases, minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments can help. Large pores, wrinkles and age spots are just a few of the appearance concerns that can be improved without cosmetic surgery. Nonsurgical med spa treatments are minimally invasive and most require very little downtime.

Nearly anyone can be a good candidate for nonsurgical med spa treatments. However, it’s important to be realistic about the results that can be achieved without surgery. While most people can see significant improvement with the help of med spa services, these treatments can’t help with structural concerns such as sagging jowls or a nose that feels too large for your face. Our skilled team will recommend the best options to help you achieve your ideal outcome.

We offer a variety of appointment types. Learn more or call 913-588-1227 to schedule now.

Additional aesthetic services

  • Laser hair reduction, also called laser hair removal, reduces unwanted hair production by 60-90%. This treatment is suitable for dark hair on the face or body. It does not work on grey hair or peach fuzz. The area to be treated should be shaved 24 hours before your procedure. Typically, 5-8 treatments scheduled 4-6 weeks apart yield the best results.

  • For longer, fuller upper eyelashes, LATISSE can be an excellent solution. LATISSE is a prescription-strength medication approved by the FDA to treat insufficient eyelash growth – a condition known medically as hypotrichosis. LATISSE can be applied topically to the base of your upper eyelashes once a day, helping to thicken, lengthen and darken the upper lashes for an enhanced overall aesthetic result.

Initial effects of LATISSE® generally begin to show after about 8 weeks, and results should continue to improve until an optimal outcome is attained at approximately 16 weeks.

  • If skin resurfacing is your concern, our MicroLaserPeel may be the solution. Also known as skin resurfacing, our laser removes a thin layer of damaged skin to improve skin texture and provide a more refined, youthful and healthy appearance. Our deep laser peel addresses fine lines, wrinkles and pore size.

If hyperpigmentation is also a concern, MicroLaserPeel can be done in combination with BBL. Skin typically appears smoother, brighter and tighter within 1 week. This treatment is a great complement to BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers. Depending on the depth of the peel, you can expect to look and feel sunburned for an average of 3 days. For the best results, this procedure should be done 2 weeks before fillers and BOTOX. This is a great treatment prior to a special event, or used yearly to maintain a more youthful appearance.

  • Made from a low concentration of trichloroacetic acid, this medium-depth chemical peel can be very effective for people struggling with mild to moderate wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, sun spots or a rough skin texture. The peel works to remove damaged layers of skin and reveal a healthier-looking tone and texture.

Obagi Blue Peel includes a patented blue base, which provides a personalized application process tailored to your unique needs. Approved for use on the face, neck, hands and the backs of the arms and legs, many people experience a dramatic improvement in their complexion after treatment. Each application takes approximately 20 minutes and the peel can be applied in multiple layers, depending on the extent of your concerns. If further enhancement is desired, additional sessions can be done at 6-8 week intervals.

  • The Pigment Balancing Peel by SkinCeuticals® targets hyperpigmentation, improves photodamaged skin, melasma and acne-related discoloration. This peel is a powerful combination of 40% glycolic acid, vitamin C and emblica, which helps lighten and brighten the skin. This in-office procedure can be completed in 1 hour. The downtime is minimal with some mild flaking and redness. A series of 3 pigment balancing peels completed 3-4 weeks apart is recommended for best results.

  • Sclerotherapy is a common procedure that treats spider veins and varicose veins. During treatment, a liquid chemical called a sclerosing solution is injected into the vein, causing the vein walls to seal shut. After time, the vein breaks down, turns to scar tissue and then disappears.
